Social Impact Series: National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum

SproutHR Grow + Give NAPAWF

This post is part of SproutHR’s Social Impact Series, highlighting the organizations we support through our charitable giving program, Grow + Give. Every quarter we donate a portion of our total sales to an organization that is doing the work around issues that are important to us.

Hate crimes targeting Asian Americans have risen dramatically over the past year amidst the coronavirus pandemic, increasing by an astonishing 150% in some cities.

According to a new Pew Research Center survey, roughly 1 in 3 Asian Americans say they have feared that someone might threaten or physically attack them (a larger share than all other races) and the vast majority of Asian Americans (more than 80%) say that violence against them is increasing.

While discrimination and violence in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities are not new, this community needs and deserves our support more than ever. That’s why we chose to make our 2021 Quarter 1 Grow + Give donation to the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF).

The NAPAWF was founded in 1996 as a result of the vision that 100 Asian American and Pacific Islander women had for amplifying AAPI women’s stories and experiences. Over the years, that vision has grown to include creating social, political, and economic change for AAPI women and girls and standing in solidarity with and supporting other women of color who face oppression and injustice.

“Being seen and heard in the public narrative gives us the power to shape the policy and cultural change needed to gain agency over our lives, families, and communities.” - NAPAWF

With 14 active chapters in cities across the U.S., NAPAWF is “the only organization focused on building power with Asian American and Pacific Islander women and girls to influence critical decisions that affect [AAPI] lives, families, and communities...impact policy and drive systemic change in the United States.”

The NAPAWF fulfills its mission by focusing on three core issues:

And they do this through the use of the following strategies:

“Every donation helps NAPAWF build the collective power of AAPI women and girls to lead our movement, strengthen our grassroots, and bring together more voices who will speak truth to power. Together, we will build power to create a world in which all AAPI women and girls have full agency over our bodies, our families, and our communities.”
